It's True: Every Mile Matters
By participating in the RIDE for Refugees, you can involve your friends, family, church or social club in raising much needed dollars that provide funding for the unique needs of refugees along the refugee highway, including refugee resettlement in Canadian communities.
Many refugees, such as those coming from Sudan and East Africa, are deeply affected by their life experiences and require extra care, direction and friendship - care which the Canadian government is not able to provide. From ESL training to financial and school settlement; from nutrition and climate coaching to school and educational advice - these simple but profound needs are often acute when they first arrive in Canada. The RIDE for Refugees raises awareness and resources for serving new arrivals to Canada.
In the past three years, the RIDE for Refugees has raised over $418,000 for refugee ministries in Canada and abroad. Investment highlights have included:
- Support for two refugee housing projects in Hamilton and Kitchener
- Support for 30 Sudanese families at Christmas in Kitchener
- Support for a full-time employee serving refugees in Hamilton
- Support for a Congolese refugee camp in northwest Rwanda
- Support for a new refugee ministry site in Turkey
- Support for Kitchener-Waterloo "World Refugee Day" celebrations
In 2008, the RIDE for Refugees will invest into approximately 40 unique refugee services through our RIDE Partner Grant program and International Teams refugee ministry sites worldwide. Our goal this year is to raise $500,000. With your support, we can.
